The Ribe Wine Festival is organized by The Little Wine Club until 2023 and was first held in 2005. The primary purpose of The Little Wine Club was to increase interest in wine, which could be achieved by organizing various wine events in Ribe. Since 2005, the main activity of The Little Wine Club had been to hold the Ribe Wine Festival. The wine festival in Ribe has become an annual recurring event in Ribe, and it is held as a large wine market with opportunities for tasting, trading, and various other activities.

The idea for the Wine Festival was originally conceived by Verner Thomsen, who as a longtime merchant in the pedestrian street saw the opportunity to create a special event in Ribe.

In The Little Wine Club, we meet several times during the winter to taste good wine, eat delicious cheese, and plan the coming year’s wine festival. In addition, we attend other wine fairs to gather inspiration for new initiatives and to make contact with new exciting importers.

Many have asked us how it is possible for five people to organize a festival with up to 3000 visitors over the two days. We can only do that because we have a number of volunteer helpers who assist us with a lot of practical matters during the festival. At the same time, we encounter a great deal of interest from merchants and others who support the festival. This makes the planning process much easier.

In 2024, for the first time, the Ribe Merchants Association takes over the Ribe Wine Festival, still with Verner Thomsen at the helm.

Fortunately, Ribe’s commerce is well steered by an “Old” captain who can safely navigate us into harbor for a few more years.
